Description

Happy Tuesday, folks!

After the overwhelmingly positive response I had to my announcement on Saturday that I will be revisiting the Dark Millenium of Warhammer 40,000, I feel compelled to uphold my end of the bargain :) Which means posting more of The Emperor's work as I burn through long overdue commissions and projects related to it.

Today I bring you yet another Black Templar though not entirely in teh same colour palette as the last one. While in the aforementioned image I had the freedom to choose the monochrome approach, this one was asked for in full-color though as you'll notice, i still managed to keep things in balance without making it too splashy.
One of the things I love the most about illustrating the grim darkness of the far future is that it affords me to possibility to do some interesting compositional choices and editing to benefit the work as much as possible. In images relating to the Space Marines, I always make my best efforts to have them look larger than life; bulky, heavy, strong and stoic. All of the attributes of a proper battle brother. And while much of that is accomplished in the drawing itself, knowing how to crop it is also very effective. Cropping allows for more input from the viewer as he has to fill in the gaps of what's not being seen which will always conjure up more scope than i could possibly render. Also, having the Space Marines breaking the frame and almost cramped into a seemingly small space adds to their grandeur, I believe.

As usual, I hope you enjoy this new glimpse into the Imperium and thank you enormously for all your support!

Nic.-
