Happy Thor's day, folks!

I wasn't kidding when I said I'd be plunging back into the Dark Millenium this week and today's post is yet more proof that I wasn't lying

This illustration was done for yet another very patient client of mine, of his original Space Wolves Commander. The Sons of Russ are another one of those Legions that you never quite get tired of drawing; there's a lot of possible variations to their theme and the fact that I've got the hang of their armor colour scheme is a great incentive I never quite liked the more blue-oriented palette that they're sometimes represented with, so I always try and steer it as much as possible towards the grey.
This illustration was also challenging in that I was the first artist to illustrate the character's face beneath his Terminator helmet, so I wanted to do a good job of interpreting the client's vision; which I apparently did since he was extremely proud of the outcome.

For me, this image is about the little details: the energy sizzle of the power sword, the snowflakes caught in the blizzard in the background, the texture of the pelt loincloth. I could go on, but you get my meaning. It's in those small bits that I think an artist can put the real character into his rendition and add a whole new level to the main focus.
