Description

Friday's upon us, folks!

And as we get ever closer to October 1st, I want to keep my pen and inks ready for the #inktober2017  challenge :D So today I tackled the other sketch I'd come up for #batmanday2017 which I ended up discarding because I wanted to do something that focused more on the Dark Knight himself.

I think my definitive love for Batman came about because of the Animated Series. It was Bruce Timm's absolutely gorgeous designs that completely enthralled me and brought me a vision of this characters unlike I'd ever seen. Of course, out of all the amazing episodes in the series' run, the one concerning Mr. Freeze, "Heart of Ice" is a true masterpiece. It made what was otherwise another of the wacky Batman villains into a tragic figure of archetypal proportions. Victor Fries so becomes a human figure caught in a drama that confronts Wayne with the nature of villainy and we can't help but sympathise with Freeze's longing to cure his cryoasleep wife Nora.
When thinking of a proper tribute to Batman to do, I obviously turned to this dynamic but found out that I'd focused more on Freeze than the caped crusader himself and so chose the other one. However, this one was still very cool to pass up and was just what I needed to warm-up for today.

I hope you enjoy it as well and have a great weekend!

Nic.-

PS.. Also, whatever chance I can get to use a Type O negative song for a title is always welcome :D

I have to agree with you. The animated series captivated me too as a kid. And that particular episode out of all of them, and Victor Fries, just was something completely amazing to me as a kid. It was just so powerful back then.... and it was the very first time I was introduced to the concept of a sympathetic villain. The ending of the Heart of Ice still gets me every time.
