Superman

Happy Thursday, folks!

While warming up today, I went back to basics and visited a character which (as hard as it was for me to admit in my teenage years) has always been a cornerstone of my inclination towards comics: Superman.

I've drawn The Man of Steel many times in the past, in his various incanrantions and in varying degrees of skill as is to be expected. But today I sort of came to the realisation -or rather, accepted the feeling I'd been having for some time- that the best version I could draw of Kal-El would have to be as "retro" as possible. Which is what you see here; a very 40s-50s Superman, which I believe fits very well with my style. 
Ever since I started doing the John carter illustrations, I realised that I'd been beating around the bushes at the fact that I love to do old-timey stuff. My latest "Star Wars" images cemented that and so I finally gave in with this piece today to the idea that my way of drawing melds awesomely with past archetypes. Some of my most celebrated illustrations have to do with my take on The Shadow or even Indiana Jones. So, I've decided to explore that part of my artwork and while I'm engaged in a lot of projects involving sci-fi and the grim darkness of the far future, it'll be good for me to balance that out with some old-fashioned stuff which you've all been so kind and appreciative of.
