Stone Heart

Happy friday, folks!

For the longest time, I really disliked Superman. I never really knew why, though I went to the usual excuses, "he's too powerful", "he's too kind/good", etc.

However, as time passes and I get older, I'm becoming more and more attracted to the figure of the Man of Steel. Maybe it's because having kids and a family I know now what it is like to care for someone else more than you do for yourself, or maybe it is because it's always easier to be angsty and gloomy as opposed to being optimistic and hopeful. Whatever the reason, I've been reading some really good issues of the Last Son of Krypton from way back when I was a kid. Case in point, John Byrne's glorious run reimagining the kryptonian's origins. And one of the villians that stand out the most from those times to me is Metallo. Most likely because of him being a cyborg and having a kryptonite heart (coolest asset ever ); so I indulged in some warming-up with John Corben showing his might to Superman.

I also am taking the opportunity when I manage to catch my breath for a few minutes outside of work to test out some techniques I can't with paid projects and long-overdue commissions. In this case, working with black and white and a color. Those who know my style from way back will recognise my monochrome tendencies, which coupled with black and white give the piece a very graphic style that I just love. I may have to work on some more like this when I can
