Hey there fellow watchers and watcherettes!
A lot has been said already about Batman v Superman lately since it's release and, having watched it myself a few days back, I unfortunately agree with the lukewarm/negative reviews.
But instead of making yet another long-winded, nerd-rage filled criticism of the film, I decided to let my artwork do the talking. As soon as I finished watching Snyder's film, I felt this urge to go back and look at the amazing Jose Luis Garcia Lopez classic 80s 'DC style guide'. Those illustrations made up my childhood and I still hold those versions of the characters to my heart as their 'true' incarnations. And even though I understand that things need to move on and evolve, I don't believe you should forget the core of the characters you're adapting. I'd argue that what a good creator does when he adapts a work of art into another medium is to put his eye on what the heart of the work and transmute it while keeping it intact.
Snyder & Co. have just taken the characters and weaved their own version of what they think they're about; but that could have easily been done with another set of characters more appropriate for the task.
Thus, here is my MiniCharacter interpretation of the classic Trinity, based upon the aforementioned Jose Luis Garcia Lopez designs, to wash off the grim and grit of the latest film. I made these over the course of a couple of days to warm-up before work but always thought them as a tryptich, so you have a progression of day-to-night in the backgrounds that I quite enjoy. I hope you do too!
