Description
I never get many chances to draw the Dark-Millenium's strongest and best representation of the Imperium of Man's strength, the Ultramarines. So, whenever I do, I like to make it count!
What I like about the Ultras, is that they are a reflection of what the Imperium could be. A last shred of the old days when the Great Crusade was still in force and the Emperor walked amongst his fellow men. And for all the criticism they get for being too heroic and plain, I think they're tragic and have their depth is you care to look behind all their ornament. They are the last vestige of times past; of hope, of brightness. Of a dream that the Imperium will never attain again; yet they fight on. Even when they know they're doomed to fall into obscurity and oblivion.
I certainly tried to convey that heroicism and brightness in this piece, which I think is greatly ehnaced by the clear blue sky behind this Veteran. You don't get to see much of that in the Dark Millenium

Never played any of the 40k stuff, I have heard the criticism about them, so I can see where that is coming from. But I love your art style and the back story of these guys is awesome. I love a good back story. Great work.
