Happy Monday, folks!

In keeping with my latest Superman kick, I dedicated the daily warm-up to the event that, gimmick or not, marked the Man of Steel's legendary history.

I remember when the news broke that Superman was going to die; I was a kid back then and didn't really cared much for the character but what was interesting was all the coverage that the enws got. Suddenly you were hearing about a comics event on the news and folks who didn't even read comics were talking about Superman's death. It dawned on me then that this was an important icon beyond comics and I was a little bummed at the way he passed against a creature that had no rhyme or reason behind its slaughtering drive.
Years later, Doomsday would be much more developed and all sorts of explanations would be written for its rampage and so forth. The Man of Steel obviously didn't stay dead for long and things went back to normal (albeit a mullet in there somewhere :D). But the first impact, the nonsense of having what ammounted to a God getting smashed to pieces by an unreleting force was shocking. Which I suppose is what the creators were after. Whether I liked it or not, that's the moment that all my heroes felt vulnerable; if the grandfather and amighty Superman could fall... who else could go next?

In any event and despite my ramblings, it is pretty refreshing to go back to these memories and pay tribute to the stories that shaped my perception of comics. Dan Jurgens' images are as iconic as the event itself, so I hope I've done him some justice with my own style aplied to his classic version of these titans in battle. Of course, B&W is mandatory when I have little time to get ready for the real work ;)

As usual, I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think.

See you soon!

Nic.-

A true moment if history was made in those issues. I have the collectors edition of the whole arc with a bonus disc of the animated movie, so it was just intense to see it. Great work as always.
