Careful where you stand...

Hello once again, my fellow watchers and watcherettes!

I was hoping this would be a more busy week than usual for updates here on dA and so far, so good.

This piece is one of those warm-ups that got out of hand. I started sketching after spending some time on *tnperkins's Gallery and marvelling at his skill and style and trying to get out of a mild block I was having due to some real life issues.
*tnperkins's renditions of The Caped Crusader are awesome and they got me thinking about how seriously some characters are being handled nowadays and how we all need to remind ourselves that we're talking about men in tights from time to time.
The recent outrage at Ben Affleck being cast as Batman is proof that some folks should step back, take a breath and realise that as much as we love these characters, they are still supposed to be fun and subject to everyone's interpretation. Personally, I don't have a problem with Mr. Affleck playing Batman; I'm just thrilled that one of my favorite movies ('Man of Steel') is getting a sequel and somewhat saddened that everyone seems to forget the Batfleck will be just a cog in what is essentially a Superman film.

With all that in mind, I tried to really push my style in this image and make it even more cartoony. I wanted it to feel like comics used to be: fun, entertaining, with quite a bit of cartoon-ism in them. And Clayface rising behind Batman here is certainly a reminder that there's more supernatural foes than we'd care to count amongst The Detective's enemies (which would certainly make WB producers and executives cringe!).

You'll hopefully like this take on the character and hopefully I'll have time to do the same for a few others in the future.
