A Dance With Death

Description

Hey folks!

Wednesday and mid-week are here and there's still a lot of work to get to; but I've also been finishing quite a bit of stuff as well. Such as this image above posted :)

This is the last ilustration I was due for the Hath No Fury anthology by Ragnarok Publications. A female-led anthology book that is full of amazing stories starring some pretty tough ladies and diverse characters and subjects. As you know, the female form is one of my favorite subjects when it comes to drawing and being able to depict it in various forms, shapes and sizes didn't only challenge me but made me learn a few things along the way as well.

In this piece in particular for the story entitled "A Dance With Death", written by Marc Turner, my objective was clear: I had to create enough depth to the scene to make the viewer feel as if he was along for the ride and not just looking from afar. So I chose to put the camera right amongst the enemies about to assail the protagonist, a deadly female assassin and have them be just shapes (as described in the book). While I usually tend to over-render everything, it was a learning curve for me to be able to use only sillhouetes to suggest a full character coming out of the shadows and the end result was a very strong image with a lot of depth indeed! And the grayscale palette that I used throughout these illustrations certainly enhanced the atmospheric quality of the whole.

As usual, I hope you enjoy this one and see you all tomorrow. Thank you for watching and supporting my artwork!
