Description

Happy mid-week, dear followers...

Today I'm bringing you something to do with my latest attempts at stepping out of my comfort zone; it started a few weeks back and it has been going on in the very few spare moments I have for myself up until last night when I hit something that is -to me at least- a breakthrough.

Whilst doing a sample illustration for a possible project I'll be involved in, called Umbra, I decided that the gritty, obscure tone of this fantasy setting deserved something to go accordingly. Thus, I dusted off my brushes, my india ink pot and a small sponge and set out to do something very loose and energetic; something bold and dirty.
This is the -awesome, if you allow me such an indulgence- result.

I've always loved B&W, as many of you know, but this is the first time I let the materials guide me, loosely, on the page. The first time I haven't been constrained to get the perfect clean line and the perfect clean crosshatch. And it seems to suit the character's description quite well; Grenseal is (as described by the writer in his brief) "an elf with long black hair and green/brown eyes. He is around 5000 years old but looks 27. Grenseal has a cold emotionless face because of his detachment of the world caused by his immortality and only shows subtle excitement in his eyes during fights.

I've always loved Fantasy and it would be very cool to do it in this style. What do you think?

If you show this piece your support you will get me closer to working on this project, which would be awesome and much needed, so hit that :+fav: button and leave your thoughts!

Until soon!

Nic.-

It's interesting to see how confident and well-executed something out of your comfort-zone is! :la:
