Turn to Stone

It's Friday and unexpectedly, I may have TWO deviations to upload before the day ends... but let's not be hasty (as Treebeard would say!)

This illustration was commissioned by the fine and talented folks over at [link] (you MUST check that site out if you like miniatures and wargaming in egeneral!), because they wanted some new artwork to go into the website, as well as fine imagery for t-shirts and other stuff, hopefully. That being said, why they chose me I still don't know...

The subject matter, couldn't be more to my liking: a Gorgon! A character which I had tried before in the past in this B&W piece: [link]
Now I got to do much more little effects on her skin as well as giving her a whole new attitude, befitting a legend of her status.

I had to take into account a couple of details, which you'll notice right away: there's no nipples on her nor any sign of female genitalia and that was intended. This is suppsoed to be "on teh webz" for all ages, so having a naked babe (whilst fun to me and you) may cause children some side effects (or so I hear!). Also, sporting a naked babe in a t-shirt is a no-no if you're married or currently dating (and we don't want accidents happening near Valentine's). The stone Hoplite was also a request by the client and the background was left intentionally blank so that designers could have her way with the image, adding logos and other stuff. I particularly like the way her skin looks like (continuing the muted green saga along with my latest Hulk rendition!) as well as the talons she has for fingers which so look chitinous and nasty. Her overall look and expression are also a personal favourite as well as the serpents in her head, which actually look like they belong there as opposed to other renditions I've seen of this myth...

So, all in all, I'm very proud of how this one turned out and so here it is for your viewing pleasure (?). I've been having less favourites than I used to lately, though I feel my work is considerably better as of late than it used to. Ironic, huh?
