Praise the Lord... by NicolasRGiacondino Praise the Lord... by NicolasRGiacondino
...and pass the ammunition!

Another busy week for me, but fortunately this time, the fruit of my labours can be shown here for your enjoyment.

This is a long overdue work for a client, involving his Iron Hands Commander.
This Chapter has always fascinated me and I take any assignment involving them with eagerness. To me, they're the pinnacle of the Dark Millenium: devoted, strong, unforgiving and completely zealous in their quest to rid mankind of its flesh. Their extensive use of bionics as well as their baroque decorations and praise of technology are, to me, the core of the gothic setting of Warhammer 40,000.

This illustration is a new favourite of mine, for many reasons: the depth I've achieved with colors is very noticeable and everything occupies it's right space within the composition. The level of detail is huge, but without causing the whole to be confusing. In terms of design, I'm also ery proud of the Leviathan fortress in the background as well as the rusty colour of Medusa's soil.

So, I hope you enjoy this one, as usual, and let me know if you agree on my assessment that this is one of my best to date!

Nic.-

PS.. The title comes from a song by Serj Tankian, of his 2007 album 'Elect the Dead'. Very fitting for the Imperium!

I've always loved the Iron hands. The guys who embrace technology rather than turn it away.

Thanks, Nic. I think you've inspired me to tackle converting this beast of a picture into mini form. Iron Captain in terminator armor... yes please. :)

As always your stuff looks great!

Impresionante! El barroquismo de la escena me recuerda a las ilustraciones del antiguo Rogue Trader!

Un saludo, amigo! :)

"The level of detail is huge, but without causing the whole to be confusing"

Exactly! The tones are just right on this one. The little white outlines helps at defining the shapes too, although they might be a little artificial or inconsistant for the taste of some. Ain't perfect, but it sure is better!

Very good. Like archaic terminator armour with exposed exoskeleton, although you could swap mace for hammer it could be more fitting (Ferrus Manus preffered wpn).Like background motive of Imperial city under charter of Adeptus Mechanicus (or Iron Hands). Grand total: Excellent.

As always I love the Iron Hands and agree with their representation of Warhammer 40K
But is it just me or does this Iron Hands Commander have a samurai-inspired look as the plates and fur on his armor remind me of one

However, the Sons of Dorn will always hold a place in my heart as the representation of all space marines and the 41st millennium

I'm confused as to what that grid-like object is behind his gun. Is it some sort of armoured kilt?

I knew that "system of a down" used the phrase in one of their songs . A friend of mine was playing the game "mafia 2" and he also knew the S.o.a.D song and heard the original song where it was taken out on the radio in the game, he let me hear that version so that was pretty interresting.

Great again! I love the things you're doing for the free mars stuff, but one way or the other your 40k stuff just ups the anté again :-P
Just wondering...the three circles underneath the imperial eagle on the fortress=> are you secretly worshipping nurgle on an iron hands picture? :-P

well its not the fans fault really. they're being ignore by GW even.
still though, I'd imagine them as a terror inspiring armored Chapter with special rules for heavy weapons. kind of a mix between Space Wolves and Black Templars as far as organization, with an emphasis on higher ranked Devastator squads. a foil to the Infantry rushes of the Blood Angels.

I am actually in the process of "book bashing" together aspects of the SM, SW, and BA codices to create an IH dex. It galls me how much GW doesn't keep consistent their dex development. For example: Why do the BAs have the cheapest heavy weapons compared to SM and SW? They are an assault codex chapter. They gain extra benefits for no additional point markup, AND the greatest access to melta weaponry out of any army (which of course is the new meta since vehicles got the bump). *sigh*

Sorry, Nic, for going off on your comments section. I feel for the IH... since they themselves no longer do so. ;)

NEEDS MORE RIVETS. ;)

The character is amazing, precisely and beautifully coloured, but I'm looking at the background again and loving that even more. The distant, lightly outlined palace (?), statue and bridge arches just help set him within a crowded, permanent civilization.

Love it. :)
