Description

Friday's here at last, folks!

After a long week of working tirelessly to meet many deadlines, I took a bit of time to finish up a warm-up I'd done a while ago.

"2001: A Space Odyssey" was the first film I watched from Stanley Kubrick and it broke my mind. Yes, it is a long film and yes I was left wondering what the hell I'd just watched, but there's no denying its absolute worth as a work of art and a classic that will be everlasting.
From the very beginning we are treated to beautiful shots of the barren african landscape and man's miserable existence in its first steps towards evolving. But when the monolith shows up out of the blue, things get much more exciting and that's one of the scenes that has stayed with me for many years. Of course, there are a dozen other shots and moments I remember and the whole movie is just splendidly sown with a lot of symbolisms and questions left for the viewer to ponder, but the monolith itself always amazed and intrigued me.

Years later, I'd read Arthur C. Clarke's novels and it'd all make more sense, but I'll never forget the haunting sensation that this alien artifact instilled in me that first time.

Any rendition an artist can make interpreting this sci-fi masterpiece pales in comparison to the originals, but I hope I've done a little justice to it in conveying the awe-inspiring view of the monolith's imposing presence.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend and thank you for watching!
