MiniMasterpieces - Apt Pupil by NicolasRGiacondino MiniMasterpieces - Apt Pupil by NicolasRGiacondino
I made this small illustration for Dave Pauwels my co-creator/friend/brother.

He's a Star Wars (and Sci-Fi in general) fan and he's already training his little padawan - 6-month old Charlotte - in the ways of The Force. Thus, he wanted to have Ahsoka here overlooking her bedroom, ready to smite down any evil monsters that may lurk there.

As I told Dave, I tried to give it a distinctive 'Clone Wars' look, but I also incorporated some of my own style to it; particularly on her skin. It's usually rendered in a bright orange, but I toned it down with a shade of gray so it makes her look more 'mature'. The light saber is also one of my favourite bits!
I also refrained from the usual action pose everyone chooses when rendering her. Jedis are, to me, monks and peacekeepers above all things. So a repose stance seemed more appropriate.

I hope you enjoy it!

Nic.-

I love it. Its awesome. You captured the feel of a jedi perfectly. One to add to the faves for sure!

How did you do the light saber without using CG effects?

Thanks fr the compliments, mae. I actually did the light saber effect using oil pastels to get the glow. They're very effective.

I was just about to ask how you did the glow effect. I was thinking watery acrylics, but oil pastels is a much cleverer medium: far more controllable and less likely to distort the canvas.

A great job of combining the distinctive Tartakovsky style with the equally-distinctive Giacondino style.

If she was this composed in the actual series I have a feeling I'd like her a lot better. :XD:

Very nice work. I like the little touches of light here and there.
