Happy Wednesday, folks!

Already mid-week and a lot of stuff to get to, but I didn't want to leave you all hanging with the daily updates :D

Yesterday, as I posted my Darkseid MiniCharacter tribute to Jack Kirby, I mentioned that I was in a Superman kick; and here's proof of that. It's a bit of a two-way inspiration/work thing because these MiniCharacters are often paired up with long delayed commissions or clients ask me for them on top of their orders. Such is the case with these latest Man of Steel warm-ups I will be posting.

I grew up in the 90s and as such, I still have fond memories of those times and the stories that were key to the decade in comics, such as the Death of Superman and its aftermath. I remember being pretty shocked at the time and even though I wasn't a huge DC guy, the last son of Krypton had always held a special place in my heart as he was the embodiment of the superheroes I so loved. That was before knowing that death is a pretty light concept in comics, especially for an archetype of Superman's importance. So came the 'Reign of the Supermen' storyline and we got to meet four succesors to the Man of Steel's mantle and my imagination was fired-up big time when I saw the design of the one they called The Man of Tomorrow: The Cyborg Superman
Cyborgs and robots and post-apocalyptic visions had always been a huge inspiration for me (and still are!), so seeing Superman as a post-human augmented being was brilliant and I instantly loved the design! Of course, we'd later learn that this guy was a villain claiming to be Supes and he'd take Coast City to the grave to build a massive engine of destruction, so... yeah :D

It's been years since those times, so when I was asked to draw this, I was beyond thrilled and even more so with this  style trend I've been on about for the past few months. I like how the bold colors contrast with the metallics and I think the self-contained approach to the composition gives it a very cool and attractive design.

I hope you enjoy as usual and leave a comment if you have the time as they're always apprecited!

See you tomorrow with more in this vein ;)

Nic.-
