Massive Attack by NicolasRGiacondino Massive Attack by NicolasRGiacondino
Hello again watchers and watcherettes!

Long time, no post... *le sigh* Life's been busy as usual and there's not much room left for drawings of my own. I'm knee deep in commissions and other projects and I hardly relax, except when I go roleplaying, which has proven to be an excellent place to develop various sketches that later end up in this.

This illustration marks my first (public) foray into anthropomorphic characters. I was never too interested in animals in general, because I find them hard to draw; thus, humanising something that was hard already seemed like something ridiculous! But playing the game, I found myself itching to draw a Tai Warrior and a Rhino in combat. These races are part of :iconexinian:'s Fantasy world in which are playing.
They're alien species trying to slowly conquer the planet we're living in and of course, we have to stop 'em. However, the Rhinos and Tai have different motivations and are at war themselves in their own homeworld; thus, this scene.
There IS one of our party who is a Rhino himself and from whom I drew inspiration for the armour seen here. Check it out: [link]

So, I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. There's a lot of dynamism here as well as really cool anatomies that I thought would never come to be. I especially like the fur on the Tai and you'll recognise I'm getting back to my use of restricted palettes, which has proven to be really helpful to reinforce my style.

Let me know what you think and see you all soon!

PS.. Thank you all for voting in the Poll I put up last week! It's been really helpful and I hope to have news about some other ideas soon!

I love the dynamic setting in this piece and the way all the colours fit together just right. Also, catgirls with armour and a sword are always delightful :p

I like it! I'm actually quite surprised to hear you'd have trouble drawing anthropomorphic characters.... especially considering how well this turned out. :wow:

Thank you for sharing!

This somewhat reminds me of a card game I currently play. Magic the Gathering as it were. There was one set where two different races were featured, these were known as the Rhox (anthro rhino's) and the Nactl (Anthro cats). This scene reminds me of that, because both races seemed to fight each other in the background info.

I love the limited pallette, and I love how the Cat's eyes are just like your ladies' eyes in your other work! It draws them together really nicely and it's great to see a resonsance coming through.
I really love this piece! Especially seeing as I love cats so damn much!! :D Great work Nic!! :+favlove:

Questions must be raised... what is the difference between Anthro and Furry?
A lovely piece, the cat-woman is making me produce pheromones like a donkey on heat!

*whistles* Okay, what do I love more? The washed-out colour scheme, the cat-girl's pose or the bad-ass factor?

Hmmm, probably all three. LOVE that colour scheme, especially the slightly yellowish colour of the girl's fur. Was it that colour originally or was that your scanner? I can never find markers that give tones that delicate.

I like your foray into the anthropomorphic. :)

I love how you did her armour, the transparent effect is so hard to capture if you aren't absolutly sure how to do it.

Love this pic (especially the bouncy, nubile booty of the cat-girl)! Wait... did I just say that out loud..?

Ha! Keep rockin' the goodness, mate. Peace! :D

Hey =)

I like the contrast between them, fast and agile, tough and strong. Two mindsets of war. Her (Tai) armour seems made of crystal, giving her protection yet allowing her to move fast without worrying about slowing down, and her weapons seems to be a rapier.

And his (Rhyno) armour looks solid and resistant, something that is meant to be thrown into the middle of the battle and come out walking, his weapon being a maul, perfect for someone like him =D

One thing I note is that his armour reminds me of Callibretto, a character in the Battlechasers comics by Joe Madureira. I don't know why, It's just the first thing that pops up to my head when I look at it =)

I hope you are still taking your time working things out, and don't worry too much about not posting here a lot. Everybody has a life and as we are all different, so do we all live our lives differently ;)

There is so much badass in this drawing its insane. If I were to narrow it down to one aspect that I like the most it would have to be the tai's Armor is sick. I really want need to learn to color white armor for a paladin style characters. I'm going to use this as a refrance for sure but are there any other tips you could lend?

I love the almost sepia tones in this piece, the angle is really great too. Makes you feel like you part of the action!

To say you don't draw animals very often, you've certainly done well with this ^_^

Instant fave!

Another wonderful action piece from you, my friend.
You're always showing us such marvelous, wonderful things from your corner of DA. And this is certainly no exception.
I really love the surreal nature of the piece and your brilliant interpretation of such a broad, creative idea. And of course the action is marvelous.

Wonderful work, my friend. :)
