Happy monday, folks!
Hope you had an amazing weekend. I spent mine working as usual but taking some brief respite to show my son the glory that are retro games. More specifically, Super Mario Bros..
It's funny how we become old and never realise it but I haven't been able to get into new games and platforms for a LONg time. And I believe it has to do with the fact that games nowadays are so immersive and well laid out that they could easily be indistinguishable from reality and require no effort on my part to engage with them. Some even apply real world physics to their coding and that's not something I think I like in my games. In the old days of arcades, your mind was expected to do a lot; graphics were shit and the mechanics also overly simple in some cases. But you were hokked just because of it. Because the game asked you for your part of the equation: your imagination, your patience, your skill to deal with impossible physics, etc., etc.
So, ranting aside, I've always wondered how the mighty italian plumber would look in my style and I must say that I'm quite happy with the turnout in this first warm-up of the week. It's a grittier version for sure but I wouldn't mind diving into one of those tubes again and into more renditions of the Mushroom Kingdom
As usual, I hope you have a great week and see you soon.
