Salutations, citizens of the Imperium!
I hope you all had a great week; mine was, as usual, packed with work. Luckily, that work included me finishing some commissions three years in the making (!), which I can show you all for your (hopefully) viewing pleasure.
These images belong to the GHOSTMAKER project, in which I illustrate several characters from the Gaunt's Ghosts novels, set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe and written by the admirable Dan Abnett. This time around, it's the villains' turn to get some attention.
Of all the parties that march against the Imperium, Zoicans always impressed me the most. Maybe it's because of the scale they had put in the service of Chaos; or their systematic, almost insectoid behaviour when it came to attacking the loyalist forces; or could be the faceless masks without any hint of humanity to them at all that really creeped me out and felt so disgusting i couldn't help but give props to Abnett once again.
One of the really key aspects I wanted to bring up in this piece was the industrialised nature of their forces' output. Rank after rank of indistinguishable soldiers all marching with soulless abandon to serve the Ruinous Powers. I also made a specific effort to convey the lack of any emotion in their masks and I'm particularly fond of their colour scheme.
