GHOSTMAKER - Surgeon Anna Curth by NicolasRGiacondino GHOSTMAKER - Surgeon Anna Curth by NicolasRGiacondino
It's been a long while since I've visited the Dark Millenium of Warhammer 40,000. Luckily, my return to it is through some of my favorite characters from the great Dan Abnett: Tanith's First and Only, also known as Gaunt's Ghosts.

This set of illustrations is part of a big batch of images I was asked to do by the ever-patient and kind :devwolfravenwood:; so, for all of you fans of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade's stories, you'll find some very familiar faces popping up here in my Gallery.

The last character I've done for now is Surgeon Anna Curth. Originally a surgeon from the upper hives of Vervunhive (first appearing in the novel 'Necropolis'), Curth joined the regiment as part of the Act of Consolation.
I was always fascinated with her strong and 'no-bullshit' personality, because it somehow reminded me of myself in certain aspects. Curth is said to be one of the most attractive women on the regiment, so I tried to keep that in mind whilst rendering her, but never forgetting her vital role as medic in the force.
We also decided to depict her in a quiet moment of rest and I'm particularly proud of the tired look I managed to convey with her whole body language.

Hope you enjoy!

Nic.-

I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying I'm his #1 fan....but I'd definitely say I'm the loudest and squee the longest.

:D

Great pictures too.

I just realized that she might be holding one of those little volumes of poetry Doc Dorden recommended her.

And that explains her expression. "Either I'm too stupid or there's something I'm not getting." XD

Thank you, Joseph!

Women are always a joy to draw; and even more so when they're tough as nails.

She does look tired, which isn't easy to portray well, but I think you did so very nicely.

It makes me think of the trench war the Tanith got drug into.  The conditions of the trenches seemed to get worse and worse every time they were described.  I imagine after a few hours of work she is just happy she was able to save the ones she did.  Especially when just keeping a wound clean is almost impossible, much less putting someone back together after some heavy shelling.

Tiredness can turn into boredom or apathy if you render it poorly, so I'm glad that isn't the case here :)

I remember when I first read 'First and Only', the character of Dorden, the Chief Medic, seemed to have that same spiritual grief about the fact that he could not save all of the men, but only a few.

She is epic as well, telling freaking Commissar that she don't care about anything and that her patients are the most important.

Totally agree. No-nonsense medics are the best asset you can have at war!
