Beware the Shadows... by NicolasRGiacondino Beware the Shadows... by NicolasRGiacondino
... for they know what lurks in the hearts of men!
Yes, I'm back to drawing The Shadow! This character has really grown on me since last I drew him and I felt like revisiting him with a bit more time and care. So here's another illustration of the man clad in black for you to enjoy.
Again he is fighting against the nazis, but this time it's one of their hellish machines, and not a 'femme fatale' like last time. No matter! The Shadow is taking care of that dangerous brain encased into the automaton easily enough...

Until soon! (And remember to hit that :+fav: button!)

Dude, I don't care what the reviews on this movie would say, but I'd pay for three or four tickets just to get in.

I just adore this piece. It led me to your work ages ago, and i never even remembered to favorite it.

I just wish there was even more pulp stuff :)

Oh, dude, please, draw some more pics with good ol' Kent Allard. Your pics of The Shadow are one of the best (if not the best).

Weird as it was, bad as some said, I still liked The Shadow movie back in the 90's, and the concept of an "evil" man using his darkness to achieve good really drew my attention, even when I was young.

I didn't actually intend for it to have anything to do with politics; though I think it's pretty clear that the Nazi regime was a bit bizarre and wrong in many, many, many ways, which turned them into a warning sign and the epitome of villainy all over the world and unto this days. I've used them here as a represenatation of that... of shadows.

Thanks for the compliment!

Haha, I agree with you that the Nazis were kinda cruel; although they improved Germany alot, many were killed in the process. And many were innocent.

That dude in the upper left is distracting me from THE MOST AWESOME NAZI-TERMINATOR-SOMETHING-WITH-BRAINS EVER-THING-THING!

Any chance of seeing it in action in some other picture?

:D Looking back at it now, I think I should get to doing another illustration of the guy on the upper left and perhaps that'll give the Terminator-nazi-thing-with-a-brain some more spotlight ;)...

Thank you for the compliments, mate!

Totally AWESOME! Can't really say anything more intelligent than that. It's a just a stunning piece! I love the composition and use of reds and greys here. I envy your mad marker skills that I want to emulate them! (If only I have decent markers to emulate with...) :giggle:

Thank you again, m'lady! Actaully (and you've probably heard this but I swear it's true) anyone can get this good with markers. It's only a matter of practice and having the tools around... I use the KURECOLOR brand. They're japanese and quite close to the usual Prismas and Copics, only cheaper and work just the same. I suggest you try them out if you can!

As for this image, well, what can I say? There's no need to be more intelligent than 'Awesome'! :D

I always get rather frustrated with wet mediums because I dislike the limited control I have with them, which (I know) is something I need to break...and want to break. I'll check out Kurecolours; they definitely sound neat. Thank you for the recommendation! :glomp:

I hope to get back to The Shadow very soon!

That is BLOODY BRILLIANT!
Wonderfully executed, and your choice of media really add the pulp flair to the image.
I can just hear that haunting laughter, the roar of those twin 45's, and the hydrolic scraping of metal on metal!
A definite fav. ^_^

Thank you very much, mate! I'm glad that you liked this image so much and that it's got such a great response from everyone... I definitely agree that the medium adds quite a lot to the pulp-y feel of the image and I hope you like the other ones in this saga as well.

I love how your artwork came out, I'd love to see more with The Shadow.

I'm somewhat perplexed that no comic author tried to integrate The Shadow into some form of conflict with the Nazi's at all, as I'd love to see him doing this in an actual series

Never read those old comics, just saw that movie about him. Although many didn't like it, I thought that it brought the character well into a film.
I like these kind of characters. Kinda like batman. If I recall right, Shadow was a inspiration for batman.

I liked the Baldwin movie too, truth be told. I think it was actually quite good in certain parts and aspects of the character, but it was sort of 'underated'. They're making a remake, or so I hear in the not-too-distant future...
And yes, The Shadow was an inspiration for Batman, and he actually carried guns in the beginning but they were eliminated at the request of DC comics who thought it made him too violent. Those wusses! :P

Thanks again for commenting!

A remake? Actually I think I've heard something like that.
I knew about the guns, it was in a trailer for that upcoming dvd-release of anime-styled Batman movies.

I comment those who deserve it, one way or another.

I love it when you put your cartoony styled characters into a dark invironment like this one and then add such greyscale/collor contrast to add depth. You're surely one of the greatest artist around(and I'm rather critical about that)
