Scarab by NicolasRGiacondino
Scarab
Hello fellow deviants!

I hope your week is going well; mine is, as usual, packed with work. Luckily, some of that work I can show and here's a perfect example.

This illustration was done for Serg-Natos, whom is not only a fabulous artist, but an awesome sculptor and games developer (and a very patient man too; he's waited some three+ years for this to be done). This is the first of a series of rulebook covers I'm doing for Xtraídos, the game's title. Unfortunately, it's been released only in spanish as far as I know, though I will get more details into that. The main tale deals with groups of superheroes attached to various corporate interests fighting for supremacy, as these things usually go :D

The background of this particular character, called Scarab, has him living in ancient days were the wise men of his times, trying to create a God, made him immortal. With little more than that to attest for his divinity, he was entombed and never again awakened until corporate scientists found him and brought him back to life to use as a living weapon. This is the event here depicted.
As you know, I love drawing mixes of ancient culture with hi-tech elements, so this was right up my alley. The designs I'm very proud of, especially the sarcophagus and the scientists' hazmat suits. That contrast of old/new is something I find fascinating.

You can find Sergio's sculpting work in his blogspot Vademécum

As usual, let me know what you think and as soon as I have more information on the game I'll share it here as well as the rest of the covers I'm working on.

See you soon!

LEGENDS: Idunna's Enchanted Apples - The Garden by NicolasRGiacondino
LEGENDS: Idunna's Enchanted Apples - The Garden
Hello, my fellow watchers and watcherettes!

The time has finally come for me to promote something I've been working on this past year (on top of a myriad of other projects and long overdue commissions!) and which is very dear to me: LEGENDS.

What is LEGENDS? It is a series of books written by the fine folks at Norhalla and illustrated by me, centered on famous Norse mythology tales. The first book, which is divided into three parts, is entitled Idunna's Enchanted Apples and as it says on the website: "It is good times in Asgard. Norse people are learning, growing, and spreading their culture.  But not all in Asgard are pleased; Loki is losing his grip in control of the trade routes throughout the realms.  He had just recently lost the trade routes in Svartalfheim, and now there is a plague in Jotunheim causing him to lose what profits he has left.  He and his main trade partner, Thjazi scheme together to have Idunna go to Jotunheim with her magical healing knowledge to set Thjazi’s kingdom back on track, when things go awry.
Idunna’s Enchanted Apples is a graphic edda based on early traditional stories.  It is a fast paced, action packed, suspense and surprise legendary telling with full color illustrations for young adults and adults.
"

This illustration you see here is an example of the quality you'll find inside the pages of the book. This is a particularly poignant and beautiful scene in which I was able to draw a great atmospheric environment, something I do not often get to do. I've done some of my best work to date on this project and I hope you like it and support it as you've done all my past endeavors. And speaking of supporting, here's some places you can find the book in case you want to buy a copy of Part I:

NORHALLA
Amazon
Barnes&Noble

As usual, let me know what you think and feel free to comment on the book if you get a chance to buy it!

Thank you for your support and see you all soon!

Shotguns and Sorcery by NicolasRGiacondino
Shotguns and Sorcery
Hello my fellow watchers and watcherettes!

As some of you may know, I've been working with OUTLAND Entertainment for quite a while, illustrating many projects, including webcomics and other material. :iconjermohler:, my Editor and the mastermind behind all things Outland has recently launched one of his most ambitious projects and the response he's had so far is a testament to the quality of his work and his company's of which I'm proud to be a part of.

Shotguns & Sorcery is a table-top RPG based on the setting created by Matt Forbeck. This is the first Outland publishing project and
it launched on Kickstarter a few days back.  The book has already reached its goal and first stretch and is making it steadily towards much more. But since every bit helps, I urge you to check it out and support it if you can!

This illustration above I did to show my gratitude towards Outland and all the great opportunities it has given me, as well as to give back some of that help through the promotion of its first major published work.
The character you see there is Max, one of the protagonists of S&S; a hard-boiled adventurer who's clearly seen much of what the world's got to offer and he's not impressed :D When I first read about Matt's world, I knew I'd love it: Fantasy mixed with noir/pulp? What was not to like? So I knew that when I had the chance, I had to do some artwork to celebrate it. I hope I've done justice to this fabulous idea!

A little more about the project -

Explore the fantasy noir campaign setting Shotguns & Sorcery.  Written by S&S author, Matt Forbeck, and powered by the just announced Cypher System™ from Monte Cook Games, the Shotguns & Sorcery core book contains all you need to play in one book. Defy the power of the Imperial Dragon Guard. Try your luck against the undead outside the Great Circle. New challenges, old foes and allies: a whole new setup to explore.

Shotguns & Sorcery is set in Dragon City, a grim and gritty fantasy metropolis built on top of and inside of a walled-off mountain and ruled over by the Dragon Emperor. Legions of zombies scratch at the cut stones of the Great Circle every hour of the night, trying to tear the wall down for their mysterious necromantic commander, the Ruler of the Dead.

Inside the wall, the people work and scheme to find an edge and get ahead on the city’s dark alleys and magically lit streets. The green-skinned folk squat down in Goblintown, stacked right up against the wall, where they can hear the constant moaning of the dead all night long. Above them, the rest of the survivors live in neighborhoods of their own, each stratified by their longevity and social standing, which make for the kind of barriers no hack on an enchanted carpet can fly you past.

Robbing the ruins that lay outside the Great Circle is illegal, but it’s the best way for people with questionable talents with rune-laced shotguns to keep the gold flowing. And most days it beats selling dragon essence to the addicts who use it to fuel their magics, or hiring out as muscle for the dwarven gangs. As long as you keep your nose clean and give a wide berth to the Imperial Guard, there’s a fortune to be made in Dragon City.

Just hope you live long enough to enjoy it.

Please head over and help us fund it!

I hope you enjoy this piece and check out the KS! You won't regret it!

The Witches Three - Delphi by NicolasRGiacondino
The Witches Three - Delphi
Happy Friday, fellow deviants!

I was planning on uploading this one sooner, but it's been pretty crazy here with work so I only managed to do it now that the day is almost over.

This illustration is the first of three posters I've done to promote my work on yet another webcomic project: The Witches Three. The premise, as stated in the website, deals with "The Dark Ages, a time of loss far greater than we know. The Wicca culture was exterminated, save for The Witches Three. Follow their incredible journey and how they came to be the protectors of Gaia."

You may be familiar with the work I did previously for DarkBrain on Envoy 82, but if you aren't I must warn you: there's sexually explicit content in these comics.
It's strange for me to have to warn people against something that is part of our nature and daily lives, but such is the way of the world and especially US-based projects. Having grown-up with european masters, I am used to seeing sex depicted as much as violence or any other motivator within a tale for storytelling and narrative. But I understand that might not be the case with many comic fans not used to these graphic novels. Thus, you were warned!

If you do not fear sexuality, then you will enjoy the hell out of this comic. Mostly because sex is, as I said above, part of the storytelling and not the story itself. The story is quite epic and deals with the Crusades, mysticism, Fantasy and sorcery. A lot of fun subjects I'm happy to be able to tackle! I've always been an enthusiast of medieval times, so getting to do a whole novel set in those times was a dream come true.
You'll also find very strong female leads in the form of The Witches, with Delphi here being one of them. She has the gift of foresight, which I tried to symbolise in the illustration's proverbial third eye unfolding. A pillar of strength for her sisters, she's the diplomat of the group, trying to find the balance in all things and the understanding needed to stop violence and decay in the Dark Ages.

The first issue is available for free in the website and the second issue will be released weekly, with new page updates every Friday. If you can take a minute to check it out and support the project, that'd be amazing! We need all the fans we can get for the Witches if we are to continue their tale; comment, share and give us your critiques. Everything is appreciated!

I hope to see you there and have a great weekend!

You bring the 40K universe to life. I always enjoy your artwork. Are you ever going to do the greatest Chaplain of all- Grimaldus of the Black Templars?

Hi there, mate!

Thank you very much for the compliments! I'm always happy to hear that my style does justice to the Dark Millenium. I have a lot of commissions and other projects to get to before I can start thinking of anything else. But I promise I'll keep the Chaplain in my notebook for when I do have the time.

Master Giacondino, I almost feel that I ought to get you a christening gift given your recent name change!

I am confident that your work will continue to prove equally excellent no matter what name it may carry.Nod

Thank you as usual, my friend!

My real name has always been behind the Aerion persona, so I guess it was time to put myself over my alter-ego and start communicating as such. In fact, if anything, I think it brings me closer to the folks following my work, as they'll be connecting with ME, without any intermediary.

I'll be posting some exciting new work shortly, so I hope to see you there!
